Board game week day five: Battlestar Galactica the board game.

So, for a change, I legitimately haven't seen Wil Wheaton play this board game. A friend's birthday was recently and this was his present, which we rather dumbly decided to play at about 10pm.

The basic rules

A game of mistrust, intrigue and the struggle for survival, the Battlestar Galactica board game puts you in the position of a crew member of Galactica and you are either a Cylon or a human. The humans win the game if they get to Kobol through space jumps. The Cylons win if they gain control of Galactica from the humans or if the humans run out of supplies.

As a Cylon, you have to make the humans within the game trust you enough that they believe you are also human. In the first phase of the game, each player receives loyalty cards which determine whether they are a human or a Cylon (most receive one card whereas others get two due to their lack of morale) and this determines their role until the second phase, where each player receives another loyalty card- this means any person who was previously a human could become a Cylon and therefore have to try and sabotage the humans' efforts to win the game.

My thoughts of the game

Overall, the game is a fun one, but it's a game you have to set aside a lot of time for. If you have never watched Battlestar Galactica, it doesn't really matter as the game itself helps you to understand the lore of the world. I like the game and look forward to playing it again when I'm fully awake.
